歌詞翻譯 - John Mayer - Room For Squares - City Love

前言：

City Love主音下下來很有濃濃的中港台風味，
像極了鳳飛飛的「愛你在心口難開」。
熟料深查下去才知道該曲是翻唱於「More Than I Can Say」。
最早的版本出於1980，而鳳飛飛的則是1981，
關於版權的問題就先跳過吧。

原來我們都是被圈養長大的，不深究就不知前因後果。

但說實在的，哪來那麼多時間做這些調查？
若不到大街小巷傳唱的程度，時代過去了就是過去了，
如同社會新聞，不論是多驚人多聳動，當下一個新聞替代了原來的炒作，
每個人都會看新事件，鮮少有人留下來打轉的。

所以，又何況是這首比較偏冷門的作品？

回過頭來聽這首歌吧！
整首帶出的是矇矓淡淡的衰傷節奏，
那歌詞大概是在講一個忙碌無情的城市裡所發生的愛情故事，
最終必然沒結果，因此寫下這首歌做記錄。我先這麼猜吧！

後記：

這首歌一定要是在地人才聽得懂！
地名跟代稱，不懂該地文化的話，直譯也沒用。
加上有些句子若照著每個字直接翻是無法表達其意的，
在此花了不少時間蒐集資料做修改呢。

大致翻完才知道，這是在說一個大城市裡的愛情故事。
兩人同居，但誰先說愛上誰就玩完的那種感情。
也就像是約跑，誰先沉船就結束了。

現代人似乎很喜歡這種不需要負責任的感覺呢。
所以我大致猜對了，結局不完美。

我很喜歡Genius這網站說的，
一段感情最美是在開始相愛的甜蜜期，第二好是持續愛戀，最差則是爭吵失和。
然而以上這些狀態都比從沒愛過好。

能留下記錄的話，必然經歷過在一起的酸甜苦辣啊！

註一：這裡的Apple不是水果，而是紐約市的代稱(Big Apple)，故可引申為大城市。
註二：莉底亞實際上是指他的專輯主編John Alagia的女友。
註三：Spin and spoon，指相擁吻且衣服散亂半開
註四：Tab指的是酒單或酒標，這學校絕不會教，直譯標籤的話就怪了
註五：巴特里公園在紐約市，像我這種鄉巴佬看到只有一堆問號
